Origin of the Lord Jagannath

Origin of Lord Jagannath

In Satya Yuga, King Indradyumna of Malava was a great devotee of Lord Vishnu. He once dreamed of Neelamadhava Vishnu. This made him curious to know where the Lord was being worshipped. Inside the dense forests of Utkala he took shelter in the house of Savara King Visvavasu. After hearing the story from Vidyapati, King Indradyumna and his group went to Utkala. They went to see Neelamadhava. A divine voice inspired him to build a temple on the Neelshailat beach.

The king immediately ordered the construction of the temple. King Indradyumna found a mysterious old Brahmin carpenter. He appeared and took responsibility. It took a few days to complete it. Everyone, including the king and his queen, were very worried. They came to the closed door every day and heard the sound of people working. The king was distraught because the deity was limbless.

The king felt much regret for interrupting the carving. But a sage named Narada appeared. He explained that the form was the true form of the Supreme God. Here, the narrator told the second story to clear up any doubts and confusion, and to help him gain clarity.

After completing the temple, the king went to Brahmaloka. He went to invite Brahma to consecrate the temple. Galamadhwa, a king of that dynasty, unearthed the buried temple. He was thinking of placing idols in the temple. Then, Indradyumna appeared before him with Lord Brahma. The two kings quarrelled over the ownership of the temple.

Lord Brahma ruled in favor of Indradyumna and asked him to install the deities in the temple. Now, the king did not know where to find the deities. Narada then assured Indradyumna that Vishnu would appear before him in the temple. Vishnu would appear in the form of three wooden idols. Someone spotted a large tree floating in the sea. It was glittering with light. Narada asked the king to make three idols from it. Then, he asked the king to install the idols in a pavilion.

Indradyumna got Vishwakarma, the gods’ architect, to build a grand temple for the idols. Lord Vishnu himself appeared as a carpenter to make the idols. However, he had one condition: no one could disturb him until he finished. When no sound came from the temple, he presumed the carpenter to be dead.

A divine voice asked Indradyumna to install them in the temple. The three idols represent the god Jagannath. They also represent his elder brother, Balabhadra, and their sister, Subhadra. The wooden idols being worshipped are renewed during special occasions. This wooden idol was made from a log of wood floating on the ocean. It is mentioned in the Rig Veda as Purushottama. Sudarsana was added and, therefore, the quadrangle worship.

  1. Happy holidays from Iowa, Winston here. I’m always watching to see what newer sites are going up and I just wanted to see if you would like an extra hand with getting some targeted traffic, Create custom AI bots to answer questions from visitors on your site or walk them through a sales process/funnel – I could even make a persona of yourself or employee to field questions about your business. I create/edit videos/images/adcopy, create/revamp/update sites, remove negative listings, the list goes on. I’ll even shoulder 90% of the costs, dedicating my time and tools that I’ve created myself and bought over the years. I’ve been doing this for over 22 years, helped thousands of people and have loved every minute of it.

There’s virtually no cost on my end to do any of this for you except for my time starting at 99 a month. I don’t mean to impose; I was just curious if I could lend a hand.

Brief history, I’ve been working from home for a couple decades now and I love helping others. I’m married, have three girls and if I can provide for them by helping you and giving back by using the tools and knowledge I’ve built and learned over the years, I can’t think of a better win-win.

It amazes me that no one else is helping others quite like I do and I’d love to show you how I can help out. So, if you need any extra help in any way, please let me know either way as I value your time and don’t want to pester you.

PS – If I didn’t mention something you might need help with just ask, I only mentioned a handful of things to keep this brief 🙂

    All the best,
